Dr. Burt Kaliski Jr., Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Verisign (@modulomathy)

As Verisign’s chief technology officer, Burt is responsible for the company’s long-term technology vision. He is the leader of Verisign Labs, which focuses on applied research, university collaboration, industry thought leadership, and intellectual property strategy. He also facilitates the technical community within Verisign and works closely with Verisign’s executive leadership team to turn the Company vision into near-term value for its business units and customers.

Prior to joining Verisign in 2011, Burt served as the founding director of the EMC Innovation Network, the global collaboration group among EMC’s research and advanced technology groups and its university partners. He joined EMC from RSA Security, where he served as vice president of research and chief scientist. Dr. Kaliski started his career at RSA in 1989, where as the founding scientist of RSA Laboratories, his contributions included the development of the Public-Key Cryptography Standards (PKCS), now widely deployed for internet security.

Dr. Kaliski is a guest professor at Wuhan University’s College of Computer Science, and was previously a guest professor and member of the international advisory board of Peking University’s School of Software and Microelectronics. He has also taught at Stanford University and Rochester Institute of Technology.

He is also a trustee emeritus of the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council, and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Society and Tau Beta Pi.

Dr. Kaliski received his bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where his research focused on cryptography.

Pat Kane, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Naming Services (@pskane)

Pat Kane is responsible for the management, policy and operations of all Top Level Domains operated by Verisign under contract with the ICANN. These include .com, .net, .name, and .jobs as well as supporting tools and services created to support Verisign's channel partners. He has been instrumental in the development and deployment of Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) at Verisign and is a member of the Presidential Advisory Board of ICANN for IDNs. Pat has been with Verisign since 1999.

Previous to joining Verisign, Pat was a Senior Principal with American Management Systems (AMS) for three years serving as an Engagement Manager deploying tax fraud identification systems for state and local governments. Prior to AMS, he spent 15 years with Electronic Data Systems (EDS) as an Account Manager, Systems Engineering Manager and Systems Engineer managing outsourced IT engagements in the Oil and Chemical industries, Healthcare Services and Federal, State and Local Governments. Pat holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.

Matt Larson, Vice President of DNS Research at Verisign (@DNSMatt)

Matt Larson, Vice President of DNS Research at Verisign, is a specialist in DNS protocol and operational issues. He is an active participant in the wider DNS community as a contributor to the DNS engineering and operations working groups in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF); as chairman of the board of the DNS Operations, Analysis and Research Center; as vice-chair of ICANN's Root Server System Advisory Committee (RSSAC); and as a member of ICANN's Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC).

He co-authored DNS on Windows Server 2003, DNS on Windows 2000 and DNS on Windows NT for the O'Reilly & Associates Nutshell Handbooks series with Cricket Liu.

Prior to joining Verisign in June 2000, Matt founded Acme Byte & Wire, a DNS consulting and training company with customers in more than 10% of the Fortune 100. Matt also ran hp.com, one of the largest corporate domains in the world, and later worked in HP's professional services organization.

Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science, and a Bachelor of Music in Church Music/Organ Performance, both from Northwestern University, Chicago, IL.

Sean Leach, Vice President of Strategy and Technology, Verisign Network Intelligence & Availability Group (@SeanLeach)

As Vice President of Strategy and Technology for the Verisign Network Intelligence and Availability (NIA) Group, Sean is responsible for product and technical architecture, and strategy for the Group’s product line consisting of DNS hosting, threat intelligence, and DDoS protection services.

Before joining Verisign, Sean was CTO of name.com, a “top 20” domain registration and hosting company, where he was responsible for product and technical strategy, as well as engineering and operations management. Previously, Sean was Senior Director of Technology for NeuStar's Internet and Infrastructure Services Group (IISG), including the UltraDNS, Webmetrics, Registry, and all Internet and infrastructure related product lines. In this role, he was responsible for defining and guiding the group's technical direction, as well as providing new product design, research, and technical evaluation for strategic product and M&A initiatives.

Sean has also served as Director of Product Engineering for UltraDNS (acquired by NeuStar in April, 2006), Director of Engineering for NetLojix/Impulse Internet Services, and Director of Engineering for one of the pioneering e-commerce application service providers. He is a sought after subject matter expert in DDoS, DNS, and cyber security, and has participated in the last two DHS sponsored Cyberstorm (cyber warfare simulation) events.

Sean holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Delaware and is currently pursuing research focused on DNS, Internet infrastructure, and combating the massive online crime epidemic.

Danny McPherson, Chief Security Officer, Verisign

Danny McPherson is Chief Security Officer for Verisign where he is responsible for strategic direction, research and innovation in infrastructure, and information security. He advises on corporate strategy, infrastructure evolution and product direction; and represents Verisign in key forums focused on critical infrastructure, network evolution, intelligence and availability. With nearly 20 years of experience in the Internet network operations, security, and telecommunications industries, he brings tremendous technical leadership to the company.

Prior to joining VeriSign, Danny was Vice President and Chief Security Officer at Arbor Networks where he helped lead the company's overall strategy and product architecture. He also previously held technical leadership positions in network architecture, engineering, and operations with Amber Networks, Qwest Communications, Genuity, MCI Communications, and the U.S. Army Signal Corp.

Danny has been an active participant in Internet standardization since 1996 and is considered one of the top Internet infrastructure and security industry experts. Currently he is a member of the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), Internet Research Steering Group (IRSG), and co-chairs the IETF's L3VPN WG. He also serves on the ICANN Security and Stability Advisory Council (SSAC) and the FCC's Network Reliability and Interoperability Council (NRIC).

Danny is very active in the network and security operations and research communities, and has authored several books; Internet protocol standards; network and security research papers; and other publications related to critical infrastructure, routing protocols, network security, Internet addressing, and network operations.

Scott Schnell, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Strategy and Business Development

As senior vice president of marketing, strategy and business development, Scott Schnell is responsible for managing the overall strategic direction of the company, fostering new business initiatives, managing key business partnerships and leading Verisign's marketing worldwide.

Before joining Verisign in August 2012, Schnell co-founded and served as president and CEO of VideoIQ, Inc., a video analytics technology company. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president of sales, services and marketing at RSA security, where he led the company to record revenue and successfully rebranded RSA and its then-parent company, Security Dynamics, to become the single RSA brand. Schnell also held senior level positions in marketing and sales at Apple and Photonics Corporation.

Schnell earned a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Utah.
